THE TRIPLE THRASH TREAT vol1.

Back in the early 90s when MTV Europe was half decent, there was a metal show called Headbanger's Ball presented by some woman called Vanessa Warwick. They used to have some sick bands and was how I found out about metal back in the days before the internet and when Death Metal was still new and exciting.

Every week there was a slot called the 'Triple Thrash Treat' where viewers would send in a request for 3 death metal or thrash videos. It was the hi light of the week for me, I'd tape it on the Sunday night and watch it in the morning before shitty school, I'd normally fast forward through all the other stuff and watch it first as that's what I was into more than anything at the time - Death Metal. Anyway I decided to bring back the triple thrash treat every week to my blog. Here are my first three vids:

At the Gates - Terminal Spirit Disease
ATG are so passe now (Everyone claims to be influenced by them) but when this vid came out their sound was so fresh and awesome.

Death - Lack of Comprehension
This song is soooo good from the guitar intro to the fast bit in the middle to the breakdowny guitar part during the chorus. The singer Chuck Schuldiner died some years ago from a brain tumor. R I P x

Dismember - Dreaming in Red
First death metal song I ever heard. Heaviest thing I had heard before this was Metallica. This blew me away.

I'm free

I've had my last day of work today. I'm going to miss all my work friends a lot, but it's time to move on. Time to skate tomorrow, and then my parents are leaving me at home for 2 weeks to look after the house and fend for myself. I will be lonely, but hopefully some people should come visit me.

I think Karin, Banni and Lianna are going to come round next Sunday for a Roast Dinner. It should be fun, I've never made one before!

The Biggest of all Pinks

So, the Big Pink Launch party was Thursday night. The whole experience was awesome from getting into the queue. As soon as me and Lianna were in the queue we got into conversation with a group of people smoking a joint, and they gave us some. What a bonus. As soon as we got to the gate they didn't ask for names or invites or anything, they just stamped your hand and directed you inside.

Inside was a beautiful sight: Free Beer on the bar. The DJ was playing some bollock-shaking dubstep and me and Lianna had an explore.

There some rad paintings on the second floor

The crowd was pretty big

Lianna was loving the venue - we're definitely going to go another night!

I finally got to meet Keex as well, although I didn't get a photo. She was soooo nice! Even though hundreds of people were there anyway she said 'Thanks for coming' and thanked me for all the comments on her blog. Such a sweet girl.

We had to leave early, to catch the last tube train to shitty Ruislip. :(

The Big Pink

Why do I identify with the man in this vid so much? I don't see myself as THAT big a loser but still, he seems a little lost and angsty. I guess that goes for me too.

The Big Pink finally release their album on September 14th with a really slick version of the above song. It can't come soon enough. I'm going to wear the grooves on the vinyl to nothing I will be playing it so much. I was really happy when I heard some DJ on XFM this morning go apeshit over how good he thought their song 'Dominoes'is.

THIS SATURDAY 12BAR GOODNESS

It's that time of the month again, Mattybar has been hard at work as usual to get a decent line up ready for Rucktion's monthly night at the 12bar:

CHIC-A-GO-GO

My mind has been blown. Imagine one of those notorious old school programs like Soul Train from the 70s, where you have someone like Al Green play live in a studio and the audience are all dancing, having a good time. Now fast forward to present day and replace Al Green with Lightening Bolt, the Misfits or Los Crudos, and instead of some hip cat presenting the show imagine a hip rat(literally!). I fell in love with this show instantly. Thanks to John Webb for featuring the Smith Westerns' appearance on his blog and opening my eyes to this insanity! Check a few vids below, and go to this link to see their youtube channel:
